Assumed Name and Co-Partnership Filings
A sole proprietor and a general partnership conducting or transacting business in this state under a name other than the real name of the person(s) must file a Certificate of Assumed Name or Certificate of Co-Partnership in each county where the business is located. An assumed name certificate by a corporation must be filed with the Michigan Department of Commerce, 6546 Mercantile Way, Suite 4, P. O. Box 30004, Lansing, Michigan 48909
We are prohibited by law from accepting a name for filing that is the same as or similar to another name already on file.
The fee is $10.00 and is valid for a period of 5 years. The County Clerk's Office will notify businesses by mail when it is time to renew the filing. You may file personally in the County Clerk's Office or through the mail providing your form is properly notarized.
