Position Description: Under general direction of a Friend of the Court Attorney, counsels clients regarding custody, visitation, and interstate child support matters. Secures voluntary agreements in relation to Court orders; addresses inquiries from clients and attorneys, and completes court documents. Conducts joint conferences with clients and interviews children to resolve custody/visitation disputes. Performs mediation upon requests and makes written recommendations to the court regarding custody and/or visitation. Due to budget restraints, the position is currently restricted to enforcement of child support orders. Position secures voluntary agreements in relation to court orders, conducts joint settlement conferences with clients to resolve child support, monitors enforcement of all child support, and completes mandatory court documents.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelors degree in Psychology, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Counseling or related human services field. Masters degree preferred. Michigan Judicial Institute training required after employment. Two years experience in counseling. Knowledge of counseling, social work and psychology. Computer, typing and communication skills. Ability to handle difficult, emotional people. Ability to relate to people from varied socio/economic and cultural backgrounds.
