William H. Gutzwiller
Captain

Captain Gutzwiller has been employed with the Saginaw County Sheriff's Office since 1983, starting as a part time auxiliary officer. He was hired full time into the Corrections Division of the Sheriff's Office in 1987, and was promoted to Captain on September 21, 2008.

Captain Gutzwiller attended the Northeastern Police Academy at Delta College in 1987 to become a sworn Deputy Sheriff. In 1989 he was promoted to the Law Enforcement Division of the Sheriff's Office as a Patrol Deputy. In 1994 he was then promoted to the rank of Patrol Sergeant in charge of Patrol Deputies assigned to a shift.

In 1995, Captain Gutzwiller was named Officer of the Year; in 1994 and 1998 he received Sheriff's Personal Citation awards.

In 1997 he assumed the duties and responsibilities as the Administrative Patrol Supervisor for the Sheriff's Office. These responsibilities included, but not limited to overseeing patrol operations, scheduling, alcohol enforcement and education, and training for deputies.

Captain Gutzwiller also established an enforcement team to combat teenage drinking as well as education for young adults by attending schools and meetings to better educate on drinking and driving by using the "Fatal Vision Goggles" to simulate being intoxicated.

Captain Gutzwiller also established and organized the "Saginaw Safe Kids Program" to train and educate families on the law involving child safety seats as well as proper installation.

In 2000, Captain Gutzwiller was awarded the Saginaw Valley Crime Stoppers John Dankert Community Service Award.

In January of 2001, he was promoted to the position of Jail Division Commander for the Sheriff's Office to the rank of Lieutenant. In July of 2001, he attended the FBI National Academy 206th session, graduating September 7, 2001, in Quantico, Virginia.

Since 1995 Captain. Gutzwiller has been a part time instructor for the Northeastern Police Academy at Delta College. The specialty of instruction include pepper spray, prisoner searching, prisoner care and custody classes.

Captain Gutzwiller resides in Saginaw Township with his wife, Theresa (Archie).

The Law Enforcement Division of the Saginaw County Sheriff's Office provides the citizens of Saginaw County with response and investigative follow up as well as preventative patrols 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; for the purpose of creating and maintaining a safe and secure environment for all people within Saginaw County.

Sheriff Patrol Vehicle

In 2006, the Saginaw County Sheriff's Office moved from white patrol vehicles to black. Black cruisers are highly visible and distinctive and identifiable as Sheriff's vehicles.
