The
Saginaw County Jail is located at 208 S. Harrison in the City
of Saginaw. The rated capacity of the jail is 513 inmates. It
is the only lockup facility in the county to hold people on initial
arrests or those sentenced to time for a year or less. The jail
has a current operating budget of 7.8 million a year and is managed
by the Jail Administrator.
The
Saginaw County Jail has passed inspections and has been found
in full compliance of Administrative Rules set by the Department
of Corrections for the las 6 years.
The
jail offers alternative sentencing options to ease jail overcrowding
through community service work crews and a home Tether Program
(PLUS). The PLUS Program, with the approval of the sentencing
judges, will average 80 to 100 clients on the program per day
that would otherwise spend time in jail thus creating overcrowding
and a huge cost to the taxpayers of Saginaw County.
Inmate
work crews were established by Sheriff Brown to have those incarcerated
on minor offenses work within our community to give back to the
residents of Saginaw County by Cleaning up roadsides, ditches,
parks and other public areas upon request. The work crews have
assisted with Habitat for Humanity as well as other non-profit
organizations.
Inmate
work crews also work within the Saginaw County Jail to maintain
cleanliness, serve meals and conduct minor maintenance issues
which also help reduce costs to the taxpayers of Saginaw County.
