WHO WE ARE

The Planning Commission is an eleven-member advisory body which meets on the third Tuesday of each month. During the course of these meetings the Commissioners hold hearings on various planning documents and on particular problems brought to the attention of the Planning Commission.

Commissioners also review township Zoning Amendments and Master Plans, the Executive Budget of the Planning Commission, local development activity, transportation plans and improvement programs for the Saginaw urban area, and other matters submitted by the Director of the County Planning Department.

The Saginaw County Metropolitan Planning Commission provides many different programs to local government agencies as well as the general public:

The County Planning Department serves as the Metropolitan Planning Commission's staff. The Office of the County Planner is staffed by individuals with a wide variety of expertise: community development; zoning; transportation; public administration; design; housing; environmental regulations; Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD), and other microcomputer applications; socioeconomic data; and public information.

The Planning Department also participates in other programs such as Emergency Management; Partnership for the Saginaw Bay Watershed; and various local economic development initiatives. The Department also acts as the Resource Clearing House for the County providing the following information to all interested parties: Aerial Photographs; Tax Maps; Plat Books; Census and other Socioeconomic Data; Flood Plain Maps, Soil Survey reports and maps, as well as natural resources maps.
