Saginaw County Planning staff is also involved with work for the Saginaw Bay Greenways Collaborative.  The Saginaw Greenways Collaborative is organized and funded to develop a greenways Atlas and Vision Plan for Bay, Midland and Saginaw Counties.

The Saginaw County Planning Department has been named the Designated Planning Agency by the Board of Commissioners for Solid Waste Planning.  Working with the Solid Waste Management Planning Committee, local governments and the waste industry, the Planning Department develops and implements strategies to reduce waste generation and works towards better solutions for handling the

The Saginaw County Planning Department plans and coordinates implementation strategies for protecting and restoring land and water resources throughout the county.  The Department seeks to inform and involve citizens and local government officials in actions they can take to sustain the county's rich natural heritage.  Often this entails communication and cooperation both among jurisdictions and between levels of government.  The Planning Department is heavily involved in the Saginaw Basin Land Conservancy, the Partnership for the Saginaw Bay Watershed, the Saginaw Bay Watershed Initiative Network (WIN) and the Saginaw Bay Resource Conservation & Development Area.
