The Saginaw County Sheriff's Office encourages inmate correspondence that is directed to socially useful goals. Inmates shall be allowed
to correspond with outside persons (including, but not limited to, families, friends, attorneys, courts and other public officials and organizations)
so long as such correspondence is in compliance with facility procedures and does not pose a threat to the security of the facility,
violate any state of federal law, or violate an U.S. Postal Service regulation.
Pursuant to such, and in accordance with State and Federal law, all incoming inmate general correspondence may be opened, searched and read by
authorized personnel.
Mail shall not be prohibited solely because its content is religious, philosophical, political, socail, sexual, unpopular
or repugnant. However, mail shall be prohibited if it is a threat to security, good order, or discipline of the facility, may
facilitate or encourage criminal activity, or may interfere with the rehabilitation of the inmate.
Inmates shall be permitted to receive books, magazines and other publications but only if ordered and mailed from a known publisher.
Nude photographs, except if included in a publication sent directly from the publisher or an authorized vendor, are prohibited. Nude
photographs are defined as any photograph exposing the female or male buttocks, pubic area or genitalia, or the femal breast below the top of the areola.
This includes exposure through "see through" materials. Photographs depicting actual or simulated sexual acts by one or more persons are prohibited.
This includes photographs in a publication sent directly from the publisher.
As an example, friends and family who choose to send mail to the inmates in the Saginaw County Jail must address the envelope/post card as follows:

Please use the inmate's full name, (no tag names or nick names) and IB/PIN number if known. Mail with names of inmates that cannot be verified as
being incarcerated will be returned to sender.
The Saginaw County Jail reserves the right to reject incoming mail that contains contraband or inappropriate material that may
threaten the safety and security of the correctional facility. Those who choose to send contraband to the inmates in this jail may be subject to criminal prosecution.
